The Grand Mosque was built by Yildirim Beyazit I who promised he'd build 20 mosques if he was victorious against a crusader army. This was misinterpreted and one mosque with 20 domes was built instead. I've lifted this aerial shot too just to show the size (thank you Nick Pangere and nomadicniko.com)
I think this is the first mosque we've seen with an internal ablutions fountain (sadirvan). It’s situated directly under the central dome which was once open to the sky.
The mirhab. The elaborately carved wooden structure on the right is the minbar (not minibar as I first read) - a pulpit in the form of a staircase on which the imam stands when delivering Friday prayers.
The mosque contains some the finest examples of Islamic calligraphy in the world.
This was just by the entrance and is presumably simply a door stop.
